2006 Excellence in Reliability Award

This year’s recipient of the 2006 Excellence in Reliability Award was announced by Tim Owens, PdMA President and CEO, at the 12th Annual PdMA Technical Conference. The Excellence in Reliability Award is presented to the person whose exceptional efforts have contributed to the promotion and advancement of electrical predictive maintenance and reliability. The 2006 award winner is Stu Mugford.

 Stu Mugford is the principal engineer, chairman, and co-founder of Kadon Electro Mechanical Services Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is actively involved in shop and engineering consulting projects and serves as a mentor and advisor to Kadon’s technical personnel. He has been intimately involved in all aspects of Kadon’s business including development of shop and engineering products, services, technical procedures and training courses, as well as the development of predictive maintenance instrument sales and service businesses.

 Stu is a registered professional engineer in the province of Alberta, Canada, with a B.Sc degree in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. With over 33 years experience in machinery repair and vibration analysis, he is an acknowledged expert in rotating equipment repair, maintenance, and root cause failure analysis. He has authored papers and spoken at national and international conferences, including IEEE, Vibration Institute, Canadian Machinery Vibration Association (CMVA), Canadian Pulp and Paper Technical Conference, PdMA Technical Conference, and many other technical, industry, and instrumentation users conferences.

 Stu served as the principal investigator in the Industrial Alignment Project with the University of Calgary, working on developing new methods in the use of precision optical instruments for the alignment of industrial machinery. He is the past President of CMVA Alberta and is active in many industrial and professional organizations.
